There is a NIMBY bill in the legislature right now (SB 1090) attempting to strip LA County fire survivors of their ability to use SB 9 to build a duplex or do a lot split.
A lot of these people were underinsured or had no insurance at all. The last major thing they own is the piece of land that used to hold their home. Duplexes and lot splits are the last remaining tools for these people to finance their reconstruction.

NIMBYs are perfectly willing to strip these people of tens of thousands of dollars all over again, or prevent them from rebuilding and coming back at all, regardless of what justification they offer.
